Why do you need student housing insurance?

As a student, subscribing to a home insurance policy (Assurance Habitation) is a mandatory step before signing your lease and receiving your keys in France. Whether your accommodation is rented furnished or unfurnished, French law requires you to cover your tenant liability toward the landlord for basic rental risks (fire, explosion, and water damage). In the event of an incident, claims must be reported within five working days of discovery, as noted by the comparison platform Selectra.

Failing to provide proof of insurance when moving in, or neglecting your annual renewal (by August 31st at the latest), constitutes legal grounds for lease termination by your landlord.

Structured Comprehensive Coverage Tailored to Every Tenant Profile

Assurances Étudiants by ADH offers are designed to adapt to your exact type of housing, providing you with official insurance certificates (Attestations d'assurance) in real time.

  • Standard Apartments (Studio, 1-Bedroom & larger): Beyond mandatory rental risks, our plans safeguard your essential gear (furniture, laptop, tablet) through theft, vandalism, and glass breakage coverage. They also include Third-Party Personal Liability (Responsabilité Civile), which is mandatory for university enrollment and internship agreements (Conventions de stage).

  • Student Shared Housing (Colocation): While French law requires at least one co-tenant to be insured, having full global coverage for everyone is essential. Our policies accommodate shared living arrangements for students and young professionals, ensuring joint protection against landlord claims and third parties.

  • CROUS & Student Residence Rooms: Student halls require a valid insurance certificate on day one before granting access to your accommodation. Our coverage strictly complies with all specifications set by CROUS and private student residences.

  • International Students: An insurance certificate is frequently required when preparing your administrative files (such as visa applications or French residence permits / titre de séjour). Our 100% digital process allows you to receive your official insurance certificate instantly by email, simplifying your relocation to France.

chat svg "Many students assume that basic minimum insurance is enough. However, minimum coverage only protects the landlord's walls. It does not cover your personal belongings in case of a burglary, nor accidental damage caused to others in your daily life. To remove this vulnerability, we strongly advise extending your coverage with Third-Party Liability and IT/Electronics protection. It is the key to a stress-free academic year."

During your online subscription, you cannot pick a custom date, but you have two convenient options. You can select "Today" for your coverage and certificate to take effect immediately, which is ideal if you are moving in right away. Alternatively, you can select "In 14 days" if your move-in date is later and you want to wait until the legal withdrawal period ends.

How do I pay for my contract?

You can pay your student housing insurance premium securely online using a credit card, a debit card or Apple Pay. The payment is made in full during the final step of your online subscription. We accept international bank cards, meaning you do not need to have a French bank account set up beforehand to complete your purchase.

I lost my insurance certificate. What should I do?

Don't worry! Your insurance certificate is permanently saved on our platform. You can retrieve and download it 24/7 by logging into your online customer area. Alternatively, you can search your email inbox, as we automatically send a digital copy to your registered email address the moment you complete your subscription.
